Ahmad Alashkar: Features of Award Winning Syrian Documentary Films between 2011 and 2018
The research aims at monitoring some of the artistic and creative productions generated by the Syrian uprising through exploring the most important award winning Syrian films. The research attempts to produce abstracts about the films that were rewarded international awards by comparing them in terms of content, form, subject matter, production and distribution mechanisms…etc.
The research is based on the descriptive approach. It studies content and collects information and data to reach the desired results. The research covers the period from the beginning of the Syrian uprising in 2011 until 2018 and includes films produced in Syria and exile.
Alaa AlElewi & Nesrin Alaa Eddin: Preservation of the lyrical heritage of Syria's Euphrates Valley
The research seeks to demonstrate the importance of preserving the intangible heritage of the Eastern Region and focuses on the lyrical heritage as a model that reflects cultural identity and expresses history. The research deals with the specific characteristics of the cities in the eastern region of Syria (Raqqa, Hasakeh and Deir Ez-Zour) in terms of geographic, demographic, societal and political structure, which formed its peculiar cultural identity.
The research addresses the lyrical genres in the eastern region of Syria (Moulaya, Suwayhili, Al-Nayl, etc.), as well as community frameworks for preserving the region's lyrical heritage. It also explores the mechanisms of preserving the lyrical heritage and the challenges that threaten its continuation and hinder its revival.
Anas Faraj and Rawad Hassoun: The Impact of Artistic Production on the Economic and Social Reality of Syrian Refugee Women - Shatila Camp as a Model
The research aims at monitoring the Syrian economic and social reality in refugee camps through focusing on artistic production, the economic feasibility of this production and the community image it created. The research also traces the impact of artistic production on the economic and social reality of Syrian refugee woman and their life and empowerment. The geographical scope of the research covers Shatila refugee camp in Beirut.
Zaid al-Sahnawi: Homosexuality in Contemporary Syrian Novel (A Case of Passion - The Smell of Cinnamon) As a Model
The research explores the homosexual characters in two novels A Case of Passion and The Smell of Cinnamon. It seeks to highlight these characters and to explore the fact that they are presented through female characters in particular. Also it aims to investigate how the Syrian novel approaches the issue of homosexuality and whether it objectively address this issue in accordance with the literary standards.
The research traces the path of the female homosexual characters in the two novels and explores their different aspects (psychological, physical and intellectual), as well as their social situation, ideas and ideologies. This allows us to learn about the different aspects of homosexuality in literature through the fictional characters.
Ola al-Musyati: Between Fiction and Documentation, The Characteristics of Contemporary Syrian Novels
The research attempts to explore the relationship between fiction and documentation in Syrian novels by examining a specific sample of Syrian novels written in 2016 and 2017. The research identifies the peculiarity of Syrian novel in this period, and the impact of current variables on the structure of literary works. The research is based on analyzing the selected texts, their documentary dimensions, and the fact that they focus on the present time as the background of their events. The research examines the narrative, analyzes its structure, and reveals the way in which the Syrian writers reflected their reality as experienced during the years of change.
Vian Mohammed: The Involvement of Kurdish Women in Literary Writing in the Syrian Jazira (Incentives and Deterrents)
The research seeks to explore the role of Kurdish women in literary writing after 2011, and the motivations and deterrents they experience. It examines whether pro-women legislation and civil literary organizations are a catalyst for women to continue working in the field of literary production or if they are a reason to keep women away from working in this field. Has the legal, social and political changes that have taken place in the region contributed to increasing the effectiveness of women in the literary field or have they been a cause of poor literary production on the part of Kurdish women.
Lama Abulmajid: Self-Identity in the Contemporary Syrian Play Scripts
In light of the division and conflict in Syria, Syrian playwriting is divided between a writing surrounded by censorship and another practiced under circumstance of immigration and asylum. This realty makes play scripts a cultural reflection of the changes in identity under the new Syrian reality in different geographical areas.
The research addresses the concept of self-identity and its relation with the discourse expressed in Syrian play scripts. It analyzes play scripts written by a number of contemporary Syrian writers in an attempt to uncover the implications of this relation how it relates to the political and social changes that began in Syria in 2011.
Hanad al-Shahef: Patriarchal Authority in the Cultural Heritage of Jabal al-Arab
The research examines patriarchal authority in the cultural heritage of Jabal al-Arab as a social, political and cultural structure in a society where male domination prevails over the process of decision-making in the context of relations between the individual and social structures. The patriarchal authority is hierarchically drawn from the form of power relations between males and females within the nuclear family, and power relations between individuals and older persons in the extended family, in addition to the form of interpersonal relations and the head of religious authority in cultural groups.
Wadiaa Farzli: Asylum in the Syrian - German Theater
The issue of asylum in the Syrian-German Theater is one of the main issues through which Syrian artists try to influence public opinion and attract public attention to Syrian asylum. How asylum is presented on German theaters is the problematic issue that will be addressed in the research. Specifically, the research explores the artistic mechanisms and options that represent the issue of asylum and how they reflect on the identity aspect, especially with regard to the newly acquired asylum identity. How do Syrians see themselves in new societies? What are the caveats of relying on the newly acquired identity in discussing the social and life realities of the Syrian individuals in the countries of asylum and presenting these ideas on German theaters?
