MINA Forum Opens Today in Beirut

Ettijahat-Independent Culture organizes “MINA: Artistic Ports and Passages”, an art platform to be held in several locations in Beirut from November 30 to December 3, 2017.

More than 30 artists from 10 countries will participate in the forum, which marks the fifth anniversary of Ettijahat. MINA will include diverse shows and events in the fields of theater, cinema, musical performances and art installations, which are prepared under projects supported by Ettijahat in Syria and neighboring countries through the Laboratory of Arts Programme in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Libanon.

MINA will feature an art program presented for the first time to the Lebanese public, including the launching of two albums: Jiyan (by Ary Jan Sarhan) and L ‘Oud Whispers (by Mohannad Nasser), theatre readings of the play Temporary Stay (by Wael Ali and Chrystele Khodr), The Math Book (an installation/performance by Hiba Alansari), and the film screening of 300 Miles (by Orwa Al Mokdad), and Home of the Rivers (by Maya Mounayer).

Moreover, MINA will present parallel artistic activities, including an open discussion entitled "An Arab world with no Artist" (moderator: Helena Nassif – participants: Bissane AL CHARIF, David Codling, Laila Hourani, Mouneer Al Shaarani, and Johannes Ebert), a text reading entitled "In quest of our cities  in the world" (moderator: Hasan Daoud, participants: Golan Hajj, Jamal Chehayed, Jumana Al-Yasiri, Rasha Omran, and Orwa Al Mokdad).

MINA will also include presentations on diverse art projects in progress by Syrian artists who have received grants for the production of their art projects. The forum will also feature the book signing of Now Then: Testimonials on Independent Syrian Cultural Work, which includes testimonials by more than 80 artists and cultural actors from Syria and the world, and is published in cooperation with Mamdouh Adwan Publishing House.

Ettijahat presents MINA in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Libanon, and with the generous support of the Ford Foundation, the British Council, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the Swiss embassy in Lebanon, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, the French Cultural Center, The French ministry of Europe and external affairs, Al Mawred Al Thaqafy Foundation, and a group of individual supporters collaborating under SAPHIR: Syrian Arts and Philanthropy To Inspire Revival.

Locations & Venues: Ashkal Alwan, Dar El-Nimer for Arts and Culture, Fabrika, the Goethe-Institut, Metropolis Empire Sofil, Metro al Madina, Beryte Theatre, Salle Montaigne and Sursock Museum.
