Institutional Complementary Support as Part of the Douroub Programme

Ettijahat is pleased to announce that it will provide complementary support to five Syrian-based organisations as part of its component, Supporting and Empowering Organizations Working in the Field of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Ettijahat launched this component in 2024 as one of its main programmes to to support and empower financial and institutional knowledge for entities and SMEs working in the fields of the intangible cultural heritage of Syria and mainly located in Syria and Lebanon. This component aims to provide institutional support, enable programme design and management expertise, documentation and archiving skills, and promote the basic principles of heritage conservation, which include ensuring active engagement with local communities, social impact, sustainable and non-exploitative economic integration, etc. The programme also seeks to enhance the intersection between contemporary arts and the various forms of intangible heritage.

During 2025, five organisations in Hama, Raqqa, Douma, Darayya in Rural Damascus, and Damascus will be supported in a variety of ways to complement the efforts of these organisations to build creativity with new teams and support their activities.

These five organisations work to revive and protect Syrian intangible heritage through specialised training projects. "Sama Handmade" works to protect traditional crafts such as embroidery and crochet whilst incorporating elements of local heritage. "Wellfy" seeks to revive the Hama craft of woodblock printing, and "Threads of Hope” focuses on the Damascene art of Aghani fabric embroidery. "Rafekatuna" digitally documents traditional building techniques in Raqqa. Meanwhile, "Sandouq al-Hakaya" focuses on traditional hand printing and linking it to folk tales.
