Testimonies by Collectives and Individuals from the Performing Arts sector in Lebanon | Nabil Kanaan: Beirut Station


Nabil Canaan, founder, and director of Station Beirut discuss the venue’s establishment as an alternative workspace for artists, the relationship between the non-profit and for-profit sectors, models in artistic planning, current challenges in producing artistic work in Lebanon, and the future of such productions in a post-pandemic reality.

This series presents testimonies on the current challenges and future opportunities in the production of the performing arts in Lebanon and the possibility of developing innovative approaches for the survival and sustainability of this sector. It includes interviews with prominent artistic groups and individuals. The questions of which have been developed within the framework of addressing performing arts as a professional field. Some questions intersect to discuss general production mechanisms and models, while others are tailored to engage in conversations around artistic partnerships, techniques of centralized production, the challenges of decentralization, the management of cultural venues, audience outreach and community relationships.
